I Need Some Shoes

*EDIT* Nibbles won't let me post a picture in here... so idk

I've always been a converse Chuck wearing guy, until a recent issue I've encountered. I have begun commuting to school, and drive much more often than I have before, and in my sneakers instead of work shoes. This has lead to a problem though...

The thin and unpadded backing of the chucks means that all that time my foot spends on the pedals, my heal/back of my foot begin to get really really sore (that's where my foot rests when pressing the pedals naturally). So I need new shoes.

Can anyone recommend some decent shoes that will be comfortable for driving, and can endure the winter snow some? I generally buy one pair of shoes for ever 1-2yrs, so durability is nice as well. Big factor is price too, I don't spend $75 on shoes, just makes no sense to me and I can't afford that right now. Any suggestions? I also don't want to wear vans etc like all the skater boys do, I prefer a more neutral styling in this case.

Bonus points: guess the car these pedals come from!

These are pretty great for everything, including driving, come in low and high top versions and is padded enough to keep your feet from going sore. Plus, they come in a single color with only three stripes, so they're pretty neutral too.

I used to wear Chucks all the time as well, and switched to these for similar reasons, so they're my personal recommendation.

I've always loved PF-Flyers, just like chucks but cooler (due to sandlot ties). And they have an insole so they are a little more comfortable. You may be hard pressed to find something that is well padded, and not bulky though.

Hm yeah, sandlot is a great. Loved watching as a kid. I'm not sure if it is the padding I'm looking for, and I'm willing to give up the chuck style look. I'll have to try some on.

Thanks!

Seems a logical choice. I'll have to look into those as well. Good to hear from someone making the same jump, thanks!

Yes. I wanted a pair pretty bad. But ended up custom ordering some Chucks.

No problem man! I got my first pair of these back in early 2009 and have stuck with them since. Oh yeah, they're specially good for wide feet, just like Chucks too.

I would firstly recommend Piloti shoes, since they are fucking great driving/racing shoes. But the company is dead now and they can be kind of pricey. Sooo Onitsuka Tigers are really damn great too. They're what I wear as everyday shoes, and I've had the green pair for 5 years and white ones for 2, so they'll last.

Since you made a point about not wanting to blend in with vans. Onitsuka Tigers were one of the oldest shoe companies in Japan before turning into Asics & the white ones are called Mexico 66 and are the throwback ones #hipster. But you can find them in a ton of colors for any where between 40-90 bucks.

Ooh, a local throwback shoe store around here sells those. There's a pair with balled heels that look outstanding for driving, always wanted them. Someday...

If you like them and they're in your budget go for it!

I already have 10 pairs of shoes so it's hard to justify. Maybe when I start inevitably driving the track.

Ahh well your opening statement of "I need some shoes" might need to be changed then.

I wear Sperrys with shorts, and Justins with pants almost exclusively, unless I'm goin formal or working out. I have a pair of Sperrys where the rubberized sole tapers up onto the heel and they're great for driving. If you go to one of those big box shoe stores or an outlet you can get some for less than $50 if you're lucky. Also, they never wear out.

I like these in the more understated color schemes. Thanks for the suggestion, I may look into these. Never realized they existed.
